Paint does not a lifetime of memories erase

We pulled the pennants off the wall, dusted and nested the well-worn hats, many of them little league replicas of major league teams. Memories of the growing up years when summers meant baseball and swimming at the community pool, bike riding and playing in the cul-de-sac.

We took down the bulletin board, still plastered with a hodgepodge of stuff - old photographs and faded boutonnieres, scraps of paper with long forgotten phone numbers, yellowed newspaper clippings, bits and pieces of the past.

It's time, we agreed, actually past time to give the room a fresh coat of paint. It's still Nick's room - just look inside the closet, in the drawers and on the bookshelves. But even when everything is gone, even then it will still and forever be Nick's room.
